Windows in Time: "Connections Across Landscapes: Building Stories out of Bones"

Windows in Time: "Connections Across Landscapes: Building Stories out of Bones" Online

Archaeologist Katie Johnson will examine excavations at the Jacksonville Chinese Quarter Site. They resulted in the recovery of over 50 pounds of animal bones. These bones represent mealtimes, home cooking, adaptation and innovation of Oregon Chinese Americans in late nineteenth century.

Katie Johnson is a staff archaeologist at the Southern Oregon University Laboratory of Anthropology, where she has been working in the Rogue Valley for more than a decade. Katie is currently pursuing her Masters in anthropology with a focus in zooarchaeology. She specializes in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), cartography, zooarchaeology, and cultural resource management.

This program is being offered in person and via Zoom for a limited number of registered attendees.

The monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people, values, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services.
