Who Was Olive Oatman? Why Did She Live in Phoenix, Oregon?, 18+ YRS
In 1851, 13-year-old Olive Oatman was kidnapped by a Yavapai tribe in Arizona. She was traded to a Mohave tribe until she returned to white society in 1856. Known for the blue chin tattoo that she received from the Mohaves, Olive lived in Phoenix, Oregon, for a short period. Her story was national news at the time and continues to draw interest today. Jody Fleming's presentation will include Olive's story, photographs, and paintings, and even the lyrics of a song. Come to the Jacksonville Library on November 18 and hear about her incredible life story.
