CANCELED: Rogue Reads: Make Your Own Meditation Strand, 18+ YRS

CANCELED: Rogue Reads: Make Your Own Meditation Strand, 18+ YRS

The individual creation of a meditation strand is rooted in many ancient traditions. The Greeks have worry beads, Catholics use Rosary beads and Buddhists have malas, to name a few. The repetitive action of stroking beads has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, creating a sense of relaxation.

In the context of grief (a theme present in Afterlife), patrons can both choose beads that represent the person or thing they are grieving, and it will also be an item that they can keep around (in a pocket for instance) for moments when they need to find a tangible source of comfort.

About Rogue Reads
Rogue Reads encourages everyone in Jackson County to read and discuss the same books. This three-month program takes place December through February and features discussions and programs around books by the 2023-2024 Rogue Reads author Julia Alvarez.

Join the Rogue Reads Challenge on Beanstack, then read and discuss this year's titles: Afterlife (adults), Finding Miracles (teens), Return to Sender (tweens), and Already A Butterfly (children and families). Beanstack participants track their reading to earn badges and chances to win fun prizes.
