Take & Make: Hojalata Mexican Tin Art, 13+ YRS
As Hispanic Heritage Month winds down, let’s explore another Mexican art form – Hojalata art!
Hojalata (pronounced oh-huh-la-tuh) means “tin”.
Hojalata art has been around for hundreds of years. It’s a colorful style that became popular with the wide availability of tin in Mexico. The process involves shaping, stamping and painting tin to create interesting designs that you can use for decorative or functional purposes.
Over the years, different regions of Mexico have developed their own unique Hojalata styles – creating shiny and/or vibrantly colorful items; or even humorous, abstract, religious or super-ornate creations.
What will your Hojalata style be? Grab a DIY kit and find out!
Kits are available while supplies last.
