My Life in Book Banning: Author Talk with Jonathan Evison, 16+ YRS

Join JCLS and New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Evison in celebration of Banned Books Week. Evison will discuss Lawn Boy, a coming-of-age story about a young bi-racial (Chicano and white) gay adult from a working class family in Washington state. Written for adults, the novel found crossover appeal for young adults, leading to Evison's seventh novel making it to the number 2 spot on the American Library Association's Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2021 list.

This event will take place in the Grand Reading Room in the Medford Library. Attendees will be able to purchase copies of Lawn Boy following the talk just in time for an exclusive author signing.

Jonathan Evison is the New York Times Bestselling Author of the novels “All About Lulu,” “West of Here,” “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving,” “This is Your Life,” “Harriet Chance!,” “Lawn Boy,” “Legends of the North Cascades,” “Small World,” “Again and Again,” and the forthcoming “The Heart of Winter.”

Evison is the recipient of numerous awards, including The American Library Association's Alex Award, The Washington State Book Award, two Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, and the Housatonic Award, among others. Sherman Alexie has called Evison "the most honest white man alive." Evison lives with his family on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state.
