Windows in Time: Bringing Water to the Agate Desert and Beyond, 18+ YRS Online
Roguelands, an effort to sell 5-acre planted and irrigated orchards in the Agate Desert, required the building of the first large-scale irrigation system in Southern Oregon in the early 1900s. How it was done and what resulted is the focus of this presentation by Alice Mullaly. Plan or scam, Rogueland’s consequences set the scene for a prosperous Rogue Valley.
Alice Mullaly is a retired educator and local historian. She has given several other Windows in Time talks and is a longtime volunteer at the Southern Oregon Historical Society, where much of her research is done.
The monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people, values, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays, in-person). Registration is only required to attend the Zoom version of Medford's program. Recordings of Medford presentations are available on the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel
