October 15th. Part Two: Coming to your Senses. Creative writing begins with creative perception. We’ll clarify that old imperative, Show, don’t tell, and explore the role of all five senses in creating the illusion of Life on the page.

November 18th. Part Three: Finding the Hotspots. Creative writing thrives on tension. We’ll tune into the possibilities for conflict on every level — between forces, between characters, between individual words.

An Air Force brat who landed on the civilian faculty of the US Naval Academy, Molly Best Tinsley taught literature and creative writing before the publication of her first novel, My Life with Darwin, prompted her heading west to Ashland to write full-time. Her story collection Throwing Knives won the Sandstone Prize and the Oregon Book Award. Her most recent novel is A Modest Trumpet Fanfare. Told in five voices, it is a story of the multi-generational impact of military service on one family.
