Local Color: Invasive to Creative

Local Color: Invasive to Creative

Himalayan Blackberry was first cultivated in this region for its delicious fruit, but is now considered an invasive species impacting our local ecosystem. Join us for this outdoor adult program at North Mountain Park to learn some basic plant identification and natural history. Then learn how to remove this plant to use it as a natural dye. We will pull some Himalayan Blackberry plants and then turn parts of the plant into natural dyes which we will use to dye a variety of materials. Please meet at the North Mountain Park Nature Center.

This program is a collaboration between the Ashland Branch of Jackson County Library Services, the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission, the North Mountain Park Nature Center, and the Southern Oregon University Environmental Education graduate program.
