Rogue Reads: Live Looping with Larry Smith, 13+ YRS

Larry Smith, bass player and music professor at Rogue Community College, will create original music in a live looping session utilizing songs inspired by or featured in the Rogue Reads selection Music is History by Questlove. Live looping involves recording, layering, and texturing tracks in real time to create a performance. Audience participation is invited, and there be discussion about how music evokes community, connection to history, and collective emotional meaning.

A short Q&A will follow the performance with a chance for attendees to explore sounds in the live looping set-up.

About Rogue Reads

Rogue Reads encourages everyone in Jackson County to read and discuss the same books. This three-month program takes place December through February and features discussions and programs on the 2022-23 theme: Music & Community.

Join the Rogue Reads Challenge on Beanstack, then read and discuss this year's titles: Music is History by Questlove (adults), If I Ever Get Out Of Here by Eric Gansworth (teens), Amina’s Voice by Hena Khan (tweens), and Because by Mo Willems (children and families). Beanstack participants track their reading to earn badges and chances to win fun prizes.

Look for more exciting Rogue Reads programs, including virtual author talks with Hena Khan and Eric Gansworth and a screening of Summer of Soul, Questlove's Grammy award-winning documentary. Register for these events and view the complete schedule at jcls.org/roguereads

Rogue Reads is made possible with the generous support of the Jackson County Library Foundation.
